The Early Learning Center elementary school in Poughkeepsie, New York is home to nearly 500 pre-K and Kindergarten students. Recently the school’s PTA reached out to us for support of a big project-completely restocking their library.
When the school was re-opened as a space for Pre-K and K students, there wasn’t much of a library available. A quote from their website says,
“Past administrators have purchased some books, and some have been donated, but…we do not have nearly enough to fill our shelves.”
Stewart’s Shops/The Dake Family were proud to offer our support of this worthy initiative with a donation of $3,000! Stewart’s Shops places a high value on education and were excited to see the community, including the school’s PTA, hard at work fundraising to meet their goals. The school is aiming is to fully stock the library with fun and educational books for the students, and our gift will assist them with purchasing new books and furniture for the library.
The initiative was coined “The Book Hive Project” after the City of Poughkeepsie’s seal, the bee hive, and the school’s motto “Bee Kind, Bee Safe, Bee Respectful”.
