Stewart’s Shops has pledged $1 million dollars for the building of the Plattsburgh YMCA! In August of this year, the Plattsburg YMCA officially announced the acquisition of the former Wellness Center on New York Road from the Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital (CVPH).

According to Susan Dake, President of the Stewart’s Foundation, “Stewart’s Shops/Dake Family have always been strong supporters of the YMCA. The YMCA has been a tremendous asset for our communities for many decades and we are proud to support this new Plattsburgh YMCA location that will be a great resource for the community. We’re excited that the new location will offer aquatics programming and will provide more opportunities for youth and teens.”

This new rebuilding of the YMCA will come in two phases. The first phase includes $3.2 million in upgrades and renovations and it also includes new amenities, equipment and facility enhancements!

This YMCA includes a multitude of facilities listed below:

  • An aquatics Center focusing on swim lessons, swim teams, water exercises and family recreation
  • Spaces for the youth and teens. These spaces include a teen space, afterschool programming, child watch, a youth adventure zone, a day camp and youth sports
  • Health and Wellness is always important which is why this new rebuild will offer a wellness center, gymnasium, indoor track, exercise studios and pickleball
  • Enrichment and social spaces dedicated for learning, conversation and connection

The YMCA is a place for everyone.  This new “barrier-free facility” will welcome people from all backgrounds. There is even a financial assistance program to ensure everyone can participate and enjoy this new facility!
