Stewart’s Shops Contributes to the New Stillwater Library!

Stillwater Library receives check from Stewarts Shops

The Stillwater Public Library, located in the village of Stillwater in Saratoga county is receiving $75,000 from the Stewart’s Shops/Dake Family for their new community library. Construction on the library has begun and is expected to be completed in late 2023.

“We weren’t sure where to turn after discovering every window needed an upgrade in our new building. This donation has allowed us to cover a significant portion of those unexpected costs. We are so grateful to the Dake family and Stewarts’ Shops for extending this amazing helping hand,” stated Sara Kipp, Library Director.

The new library will be located in the Fiber Mill building less than a half mile from the current library.  The new facility will be handicap accessible and will offer more space with a free public use state-of-the-art community room that can seat up to 40 people. There will be a quiet reading room, a children’s area, a teen room, and ample parking.

According to Susan Dake, Stewart’s Shops Foundation President, “Stewart’s Shops/Dake Family are proud to support this new library in the village of Stillwater. This new facility will provide lifelong learning and will be a meeting place for the entire community.”

About the Stillwater Library

In 1949, Elizabeth Beiter and Barbara Alexik instituted Stillwater’s first library. They solicited book donations, found volunteers and opened the library in a one room cabin in the village of Stillwater. Today, the Stillwater Public Library continues to draw people together and fosters a love for reading. The library provides educational, informational, and recreational resources to patrons of all ages regardless of cultural or socioeconomic backgrounds.
