Stewart’s Story: Meet Sam in our hauling department

Before joining Stewart’s Shops, Sam proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corp., worked in education and served as an assistant pastor.

Since joining Stewart’s 7 years ago, Sam has carved out a career path that has allowed him to move from our manager trainee program to shop manager to our hauling department.

“I worked in the public and private sector before I joined Stewart’s and I have never experienced the level of commitment and opportunities that I see here,” Sam says.

Stewart’s Shops is a family- and employee-owned convenience store chain that makes and distributes the majority of the products you’ll find in our 358 shops, including our own award-winning milk and ice cream.

Curiosity and a positive attitude are the hallmarks of Stewart’s and our companywide staff of more than 5,000 partners who help keep our coolers, gas pumps and shop shelves stocked.

“I love my job. The fun part of being a gas driver is every day is a little different and you never feel like you are left all alone to figure things out,” Sam says.

Sam also enjoys the camaraderie of being part of the team of 125 drivers who haul everything from ice cream and milk to groceries and gasoline. Did you know Stewart’s hauling team drove more 4 million miles last year?

“There is so much opportunity here,” Sam says. “People don’t realize there are thousands of jobs at Stewart’s. We have mechanics, accountants, an IT department. We have office workers and shop managers. We manufacture are own food and ice cream. The list goes on and on.”
