The American Red Cross of Eastern New York and Stewart’s 11th annual ‘Give a Pint, Get a Pint’ campaign attracted 11,100 blood donors last month, a 5% increase over last year.
The June campaign also attracted 827 first-time donors.
Since the Red Cross and Stewart’s partnership began in 2016, the campaign has attracted more than 111,000 donors during a time of year when blood donations are in short supply.
Demand for blood donations is so high that blood, plasma and platelet donations are needed every two seconds in the United States. Donations are needed to treat accident victims, burn victims, cancer patients and people recovering from surgery.
Stewart’s teamed up with the Red Cross last month to encourage more people to take time out of their day to give blood by donating a gift certificate for a prepackaged pint of Stewart’s ice cream or gelato to everyone who donated blood to the Red Cross in participating communities throughout upstate New York.
“It’s inspiring to see so many people take time to donate blood and care for their community and we are happy to support those efforts,” said Stewart’s Shops president Chad Kiesow.
