Senator Tedisco and Stewart’s team up for Safe Summer Bike Helmet Program

Stewart’s Shops scooped free ice cream on July 17 at the Milton summer camp to help State Senator Jim Tedisco kick off his 26th annual Safe Summer Bike Helmet Program.

The program is a fun reminder that children under the age of 14 must wear a helmet when riding their bicycle, skateboard, in-line skates or scooter in New York State or their parents could face a $50 fine.

“What a great way to teach our children the importance of bicycle safety, while heightening awareness in the community,” said Chad Kiesow, chief operating officer of Stewart’s Shops. “Senator Tedisco has impacted a generation of young bike riders and Stewart’s is honored to have been a part of it from the beginning.”

This year, Stewart’s donated 3,000 single scoop ice cream cone certificates for the program that more than a dozen police departments and the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office will distribute as a reward to children who wear a helmet and practice safe bicycling. The senator’s program also provides free helmets to children who do not have one.

This is an effective program that encourages positive interactions between children and law enforcement, which is why Stewart’s has donated more than 50,000 ice cream cone certificates since Senator Tedisco started the initiative.
