Stewart’s Shops scooped free ice cream on July 9th at the Southern Saratoga YMCA Summer Camp in Clifton Park to celebrate the kick off of State Senator Jim Tedisco’s 27th annual Safe Summer Bike Helmet Program.
The goal of Senator Tedisco’s program is to encourage more children and families to practice bike safety. Whether they’re biking, skating, or riding a scooter, the program aims to build smart habits that help keep kids safe while they enjoy their favorite summer activities.
“The senator has been teaching children the importance of bike safety for decades. Stewart’s Shops is honored to support those efforts and what better way to reward children than with a little ice cream,” said Stewart’s president Chad Kiesow.
Stewart’s Shops has donated 3,000 single-scoop ice cream gift certificates to support a safety initiative that promotes helmet use and smart biking habits among kids.
A dozen police departments along with the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office will distribute the certificates to children spotted wearing helmets and riding safely. The program also helps ensure that children without helmets receive one at no cost.
By encouraging safe behavior and building trust between youth and police officers, the program has proven highly effective. That’s why Stewart’s has continued its support over the years, contributing more than 50,000 cone certificates since Senator Tedisco first introduced the effort.
