Stewart’s manager Doreen Doesburg has fond memories of her daughter visiting her shop.
She had no idea her daughter would follow in her footsteps and build a career at Stewart’s Shops.
Doreen has spent 26 years with the family- and employee-owned convenience store chain. Today, she manages the Stewart’s in Schuylerville, while her daughter, Ashley Doesburg, manages a shop just a few miles away in Greenwich.
“When my daughters were growing up, the conversations around the dinner table were often about Stewart’s,” Doreen said.
Ashley joined Stewart’s part time while she was in college because she needed extra money to pay for a car. This fall, she will celebrate nine years with the company.
“I plan to spend the entirety of my career at Stewart’s. At first, I did not know if I wanted to be a shop manager, but I really enjoy it,” Ashley said. “It’s nice being able to get ideas from my mom. We have a friendly competition between our shops.”
Stewart’s Shops operates 400 locations across upstate New York, Vermont and New Hampshire. The company also employs about 600 partners at our plant and distribution center in Greenfield, New York. With a companywide workforce of more than 6,100, Doreen and Ashley are just one example of the families who have chosen to build careers at Stewart’s.
“I have had a great career at Stewart’s,” Doreen said. “It’s been a great run.”
Doreen plans to retire from Stewart’s early next year.
