Congratulations to the South Red Hook Stewart’s Shop for winning the annual Marguerite Petit Food Excellence Award! Shop Manager Jake and the rest of the shop partners should be extremely proud of this accomplishment.
Food to go is one of the fastest growing parts of our business which is why we take food safety so seriously. All our shops have a strict food safety program. The shops average one state inspection, about six district inspections and one corporate inspection per year. It is very difficult for them to get a 100% score, but shops do get 99%.
What is the Marguerite Petit Food Excellence Award?
The Marguerite Petit Award was created to recognize shops practicing the highest food presentation, quality, food excellence and safety standards. The shop that scores the highest average on the combined scores of the district and Corporate President’s Inspection for food safety standards will be awarded with the honors of the Marguerite Petit Food Excellence Award. This award recognizes the top 3 shops in addition to the most improved shop in food excellence.
This award honors the late Marguerite Petit, who worked for Stewart’s for 12 years! During her time with the company Marguerite developed a comprehensive food safety program that is still used today. Her colleagues would tell you that she was a smart, hardworking and generous woman with very high standards.

The top shops can earn a gold, silver, bronze or most improved award. The winning shops will receive a plaque and each of the partners will receive a Stewart’s My Money Card: $100 for Gold, $75 for Silver, $50 for Bronze and $25 for Most Improved. Each partner also receives a jacket and a specially designed pin that they can proudly display on their uniform.
