The American Red Cross of Eastern New York and Stewart’s Shops 10th annual Give a Pint, Get a Pint campaign collected enough blood donations to treat 30,000 patients.
A total of 10,479 donors participated in this year’s campaign, including 745 people who donated blood for the first time.
The turnout goes a long way toward fulfilling a growing need. Blood donations are needed every two seconds to help patients undergoing treatment for cancer or caring for people recovering from accidents, burns, heart surgery and organ transplants.
Stewart’s and the Red Cross teamed up during the month of June, donating a gift certificate for a prepackaged pint of Stewart’s ice cream or gelato to everyone who donated blood to the Red Cross in participating communities throughout upstate New York.
Since the program started a decade ago, the Give a pint, Get a pint campaign has collected more than 115,000 blood, plasma and platelet donations.
