Why is my price at the pump going up? The cost of crude oil has been bouncing around the $100 mark as the unrest in the Middle East continues. There have also been a number of refinery closings recently here in the US. This has caused some concerns about supply. Takin care of business. Why we have our own shop care crew and the value they bring to customers and our partners.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR APPLICATIONS
Saratoga Springs, NY, January 2, 2012 - The 25th annual Stewart's Shops' Holiday Match program ended with a record dollar amount contributed for local children's charities. The company has announced that Stewart's customers contributed $700,000. Stewart's Shops is matching that amount, with a total of $1.4 million to be distributed to local children's charitable organizations in Spring 2012.
"It is impressive that people, in these difficult economic times, have been so generous over the past month," says Susan Dake, Stewart's Foundation President. "One of the regions, with dramatic growth, was the Schoharie/Middleburgh area. We believe that because of the many hardships brought on by Hurricane Irene, those residents know more than most the value of helping each other."
The Holiday Match program is based on customers making contributions in the 328 Stewart's Shops, located in upstate NY and western VT, from Thanksgiving Day through Christmas Day. Stewart's then matches all individual customer donations. The money raised benefits children's organizations directly within the communities where Stewart's Shops are located. There are no administrative costs and 100% of the funds collected and matched benefit the communities that have made this program so successful. After this year's funds are distributed, over $16 million will have been allocated since the program's inception in 1986.
The $700,000 that Stewart's is matching is 31% of the $2,250,000 donations budget for Stewart's Shops in 2012. "With the need growing each year and fewer companies able to supply funding for organizations, our $2.25 million will assist thousands of local organizations in 2012. It is the right thing to do and fits our company theme that We Are Closer To You," says Dake.
Stewart's Shops re-ups for 2012 Empire State Winter Games
LAKE PLACID, ADIRONDACKS, USA - A regional coalition came together one year ago to continue the legacy of the Empire State Winter Games when New York State's budget crunch eliminated the competitions. Stewart's Shops saw the value of the Winter Games, a tradition that began in 1980 just weeks after the Lake Placid Olympic Winter Games, and partnered with organizers for the 2011 edition. In an announcement last Monday, Stewart's Shops has committed to team with the Games again in 2012, making the popular convenience stores the first sponsor to do so. "Community involvement is an important part of Stewart's culture, of what makes Stewart's work," said Gary Dake, President of Stewart's Shops. "We are an employee and family-owned company, and we believe that giving back to the communities we serve is the right thing to do." The 2012 Empire State Winter Games are scheduled for Feb. 2-5 in Lake Placid, Saranac Lake and Wilmington. As they did a year ago, Stewart's Shops will offer assistance for the ESWG Torch Run leading into the Opening Ceremony on Feb. 2 in the Lake Placid Olympic Center. Stewart's will provide hot chocolate and cookies at its various locations along the route. "It's terrific to have the renewed commitment and support from Stewart's Shops," said James McKenna, CEO of the Lake Placid CVB, whose organization is leading the joint local effort. "As a successful, home-grown company, they exemplify the State's athletes for whom we continue the tradition of the Games."
