How We Do It

Vertical Integration

Much of our success comes from the integration of our manufacturing, distribution, retail, and development operations. This control enables Stewart’s to offer products at a great value which makes us successful and financially strong. That same coordination between departments gives our shops the support they need to provide service and value to our customers. It all begins at our manufacturing and distribution plant where we make and/or distribute 3/4s of what we sell in our 324 shops. We deliver products to our shops using our own Stewart’s delivery trucks. We handle the purchase of property, design of our shops, approvals, and construction in-house, which makes for a smooth process. Our development of rental property is also a growing business. Stewart’s is a privately held company; 1/3 of it is owned by our 4,000 plus employees which is critical to our growth and profitability. Being privately held allows us to make rational, long-term decisions. Stewart’s employees enjoy a high level of involvement and long-term security.

Real Estate

While we continue to shop for new locations and rebuild existing shops, our development of rental property is also a growing business which is very compatible. Our properties include over 300 Stewart’s Shops and 100 rental locations adjacent to our shops, ranging from banks to hair salons and even apartments.

What We Buy – We purchase and develop sites for our shops by evaluating the location’s traffic flow, neighborhood activity and level of competition. In addition, we evaluate the size, zoning, customer access, and approval process. The purchase transaction is straightforward as we pay cash, and will be the end user of the property. We handle the purchase, design, approvals, and construction in-house, which makes for a smooth process. Many towns are already familiar with our shop standards, long-term involvement, and commitment to our local communities, which helps address expectations and ease the transition.
